A swarm of about 30,000 bees attacked a North Texas couple and its two miniature horses. The horses later died of the stings.

A swarm of suspected Africanized 'killer' bees attacked Kristen Beauregard, 44, and her boyfriend in Pantego, North Texas, as they were exercising the miniature horses. The horses, Trump and chip, were almost wholly covered by the bees and later died. Kristen suffered nearly 200 stings and her boyfriend almost 50.

Earlier this week, Beauregard had noticed the bees hovering around her rented home but had no clue of the danger buzzing around. "They were chasing us down, they were following us. We swept up piles and piles of them. ... It was like a bad movie, " Beauregard was quoted in Star Telegram.

On Wednesday, the day of attack, Beauregard was exercising Trump (a Shetland pony). It was only when Trump suddenly began jumping and kicking that she noticed the dark cloud of bees. They were stung several times and when all efforts to get rid of the bees failed, Beauregard jumped into her swimming pool. And her boyfriend managed to call 911.

"It got all dark, like it was nighttime there were so many bees," she said. "We were trying to stand up in the water but every time we stuck our heads out for air, they would cover us and start stinging us. We were trying to breathe and they were stinging us in the face and in the nose."

The fire-fighters arrived and managed to bring the situation under control. They used special gear and foam to remove the bees.

Experts are trying to determine whether the bees were Africanized bees often referred as killer bees.

Killer bees are very aggressive. Since 1990 after the killer bees were introduced in the U.S., their numbers have been growing. Last month a similar incident occurred where a huge swarm of killer bees attacked and killed a Texas man with more than 3,000 stings
