A recent study by researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Texas at Austin, discovered that men have different regrets when it comes to one-night stands, affairs and other sexual relationships.
Researchers conducted three studies that involved over 24,000 people. The first study involved participants who were told a hypothetical story in which the main character either took advantage of them or failed to take advantage of an opportunity to engage in intercourse.
Participants were then asked to rank the main character's level of remorse based on a five-point scale.
The second study asked participants to present a list of sexual regret. Then researchers asked the participants to identify which ones they had experienced.
The last study expanded the participants to include gay, lesbian and bisexual participants.
The three studies suggest that men tended to regret missing an opportunity more, yet women tended to regret engaging in sex at all.
For instance, 27 percent regretted being to shy to make a move and 23 percent regretted not being more sexually adventurous. Nineteen percent also regretted not being more sexually adventurous while being single.
For women, 24 percent regretted losing their virginity to the wrong person, 23 percent regretted cheating and 19 percent regretted moving too fast.
More information regarding the study can be found via the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior.
