Spending $10,000 has never sounded so good before. It was reported earlier today that a 39-year-old Argentinian woman died several weeks after injecting her breasts with Vaseline in hopes of increasing her bra size.
Sonia Perez Llanzon was rushed to Lucio Molas Hospital in the La Pampa province of Argentina after she was experiencing breathing problems, according to local media reports. At first, she denied that she had performed self-surgery to enhance her breasts via Vaseline injection, but she later confessed after doctors were searching for answers that may have contributed to her medical issues.
The doctors discovered lesions on both of Llanzon's breasts and reported that the Vaseline entered her blood stream and caused the blood clots that arrived in her lungs. Her death was the result of a pulmonary embolism, which is a blockage of the main artery of the lung.
Even in the United States where advanced medicine and medical procedures are prevalent, there still remain risk factors for surgical breast implants, which creates even more concern over Llanzon's actions. Implants are typically administered to rebuild breast tissue after mastectomy or other damages. However, many procedures are performed to simply enhance their size. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration outlines the procedure of breast implants here.
Julio Pla Cardenas is the Chief of Surgery at Lucio Molas Hospital in La Pampa. He told La Capital newspaper in Argentina that, "In all my medical career, I've never seen a case like this. The human body has antibodies to remove bacteria and viruses, but it hasn't got any mechanisms against this type of product," according to Fox News.
Cardenas said he has seen other people administer Vaseline in this manner, also with men who hope to increase their penis size. He told La Capital that these people are putting themselves in danger by doing so.
