For conjoined twins Shivanath and Shivram Sahu, separation could help them function on their own. However, the 12-year-olds wouldn't dream of it.
"We don't wish to get separated. We will stay liks this even when we grow old. We want to live as we are," Shivram said, via The Daily Mail.
As doctors believe that the children share a stomach, they discovered that both boys each hold independent lungs, hearts and brains, making separation possible. However, they are reluctant to comply.
"We have taught ourselves everything. We ride to school on a bicycle and playing cricket is no problem," Shivanath added, via the news organization.
Born in a tiny village near Raipur, the Sahus birth was viewed by some as a divine incarnation.
Doctors have also been stunned at this duo's ability to shower, feed and clothe themselves.
Though their father, Raj Kumar Sahu, notes of the twins struggles walking in the rain, he does not wish for the children to be separated either, even if money for an operation were available.
Photographs of the twins have been shown to Dr. Krishan Chugh, head of pediatrics at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon. He notes that while separation is possible, Shivram would keep both legs following the procedure, while Shivanath would require full-time care with no legs.
As the children's organs appear to be in good working-condition, many question whether the operation should be attempted.
"This operation is possible," he notes, via the news organization. "But there are questions whether we should."
