Thank Facebook for helping 2-year-old Arianna Moore get a new kidney and begin a journey towards a new life.
"At seven weeks old she became sick and her kidneys completely failed," said Ashley Booth, her mother, 27, of Pine City, Minn., via WHAS11.com. "Hers happened faster than usual. Usually it progresses really slowly."
Statistics show that every day alone, 18 people who are in need of an organ die each day. While many may wait weeks, months or even years for organ donors, she received an unexpected effort from the social media site.
"I had no faith that we'd find a kidney donor on Facebook but I sure as heck was going to try," Booth said, via GoodMorningAmerica.com.
Though the child had been on dialysis for 10 hours a day most of her life, Christy Harding of Jacksonville, Fla., came across the Facebook page ALL4MOORE her mother made in search of help.
"One of my friends shared one of Arianna's pictures and it showed up on my timeline," said Harding, who has a 2-year-old daughter herself. "For some reason, I stopped and started thinking about it, and I just knew I had to make a phone call."
Following a phone call to the hospital, Harding found that she was a perfect type-O blood match for Arianna. Though the little girl is about 10 pounds lighter and 4 inches shorter than her twin sister, Moore said she is looking forward to the surgery, according to Fox News.
Both Arianna and Harding will be undergoing the surgical procedure on May 7.
"I think if anyone was faced with the decision saying, 'Hey, you could save somebody's life,' I don't know many people who wouldn't," said Harding, 37, regarding her decision to donate. "We knew that if this were our 2-year-old, we would hope someone would do the same."
