Many of us are passionate about our favorite cartoon characters, but we're not likely to try and eat them.

Dr. Ghofran Ageely, a radiology resident at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah discovered that a 16-month-old boy had swallowed a SpongeBob SquarePants toy that was hiding inside his esophagus.

"'SpongeBob,' I screamed!!! I was amazed by the visible details. You can see his freckles, shoes and fingers...AMAZING," Ageely said, via LiveScience.

He has shared X-ray images of the SpongeBog SquarePants inside the toddler's esophagus, which originally appeared to be a hairpin on a side-view X-ray image. Yet a front-view image showed the unmistakeable form of the Nickelodeon star.

"I thought it is just a pin," Ageely said, via ABC News. "But when I opened the frontal view I was shocked to see SpongeBob looking at me with a big smile. Its angle and rotation are just perfect."

The pendant has been removed and the boy was sent home.

"We see a lot of amazing X-rays on our site, but this one is particularly amazing," said Dr. Andrew Dixon, managing editor of Radiopaedia and a radiologist at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, who shared the X-ray images on Radiopaedia.org, a Wikipedia-like site for radiologists and medical students to share and discuss medical cases.
