First Cannabis Pharmacy Opens Up In London, But Products Will Not Get Customers 'High'

The United Kingdom's first ever cannabis pharmacy just opened its doors this week, based in Twickenham, London.

Carun UK will work to "harness the healing super-powers of hemp," with the claim that it is the "ultimate skin savior and well-being booster," according to Michal Takac, the UK's Managing Director .

According to Takac, the compounds used in products are a specially cultivated species of Cannabis sativa called Carmagnola. Marijuana can be classified into three distinct trios, including sativa, indica, and hybrid.

Sativa is typically more tall and thin and tends to provide a more uplifting and creative effect with cerebral focus. In some cases, it can also help to relieve depression, attention deficit disorder, fatigue and mood disorders.

However, Takac stressed that all store products would not get anyone high.

"These support our immune system; restore the balance and health of cells as well as possessing anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibiotic properties," he added, via The Metro"But no... they will not and cannot make you high."

This is because while the THC (or the chemical that gets users "high") is typically present at 20 to 30 percent in marijuana, it is only at 0.3 percent in store products. In other words, that's somewhat similar to levels that naturally exist in the body already.

"The products are enriched with cannabis sativa extract which contains anti-inflammatory cannabinoids," the company's website stated."These compounds are already produced naturally by our bodies, and support our immune system, restore the balance and health of cells, as well as possessing anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibiotic properties."

However, Carun, a Czech company, is not the first shop in the area to sell hemp products. In fact, the Body Shop launched a hemp product range about 20 years ago, according to rt.com. The company GW Pharmaceuticals also makes medicines from cannabis that have had success with treating childhood epilepsy in the past.
