India welcomed the biggest baby the country has ever seen.
The 13 pound baby boy--delivered to 25-year-old Goga Bai via an emergency Cesarean section--has been described by doctor's as a ‘miracle.' Bai weighs 220 pounds and is diabetic, increasing ths risk of obesity in offspring, according to medical professionals.
"I have never delivered any new-born this big," said Dr Anamika Aggarwal, via The Daily Mail. "He was definitely a surprise for us. He is not only the biggest baby ever born at the hospital but in the whole country.
"His mother tried to give him a normal birth but the baby was too big to come out naturally and got stuck so we had to perform the C-section with utmost care. Both the mother and the child are in sound health. Initially he had respiratory trouble but now he is doing absolutely fine and is healthy."
Newborns typically weigh between 5 pounds, 8 ounces and 8 pounds, 13 ounces, according to Kids Health.
Women who are overweight or obese before pregnancy may face extra health issues during this time. They're more at risk for gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, and early labor. Furthermore, they're also more likely to require a Cesarean section, have heavy bleeding following birth, risk of deep vein thrombosis and increased time spent in the hospital due to more complications, as well as macrosomia (a larger baby.)
If you're planning on becoming pregnant, talk with your doctor about what's right for the health and the future of your baby.
