Alzheimer's Disease: Biochemical Blood Changes Linked To Inherited Form Of Illness

New findings published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease examine biochemical changes in the blood that occur in a rare inherited form of Alzheimer's and how this could potentially lead to a method of both diagnosis and treatment for this and other forms of the health issue.
During this recent study, researchers at the CRC for Mental Health and Edith Cowan University examined the lipid profiles of 20 people who carry a mutation that's responsible for a rare inherited form of Alzheimer's known as familial Alzheimer's. When using samples from the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network (DIAN) study, they found these individuals carried altered levels of blood plasma when cmpared to those in the control groups.
The study results suggest that specific changes in lipid metabolism may be used as a predictive test for Alzheimer's disease (AD), researchers say.
Researchers are hopeful that the findings may provide clues to suitable diagnostic markers relating to the health issue.
