Disney is being called on by Care2 to run a PSA prior to the screening of the movie "Finding Dory" in order to safeguard the blue tang. While Dory's character has been loved by many, the Pixar role may become a problem for the fish.
The Disney production is being asked to take precautionary measures to make sure that the blue tang, which is Dory's species of fish, will be protected after the Pixar film release. A petition with 27,000 signatures and filed by Kelsey Bourgeois, a public service announcement is being asked to play prior to the screenings of the movie scheduled to hit the cinemas this coming June. According to reports, the announcement should outline the significance of protecting the blue tang.
After the release of Disney Pixar's "Finding Nemo" in 2003, the sales of clownfish, which is the species of main character Nemo and dad Marlin, were reported to have increased. The group Saving Nemo Conservation Fun noted that more than 1 million of clownfish are taken out from the reefs and sold for home aquariums every year. According to them, this leads to clownfish extinction in areas such as the Philippines and some parts of Thailand, Teen Vogue reported.
In another highly talked about news regarding this movie, the latest "Finding Dory" trailer gave a hint on a possibility of the first ever lesbian couple to appear in a Disney film. Ellen Degeneres, known to give life to Dory's character and a proud lesbian, shared the trailer through Twitter.
On a same note, LGBT activists and Idina Menzel, who gave voice to Elsa, believe that it is about time that Disney become more upfront in the society's issues and represent the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community to help their children fans, who are part of the LGBT to understand and accept themselves.
A twitter campaign was launched through #GiveElsaAGirlfriend as a sign of support for the plan of making Elsa a lesbian. The hashtag started to trend within hours, with the LGBT activists tweeting almost 5,000 times per hour, according to Life Site News. However, other group of fans responded negatively by creating a petition with more than 200,000 signatures, calling on Disney to defy the pressure.
Also goes the same for Marvel's Captain America. A Twitter plea of #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend has began. The Marvel management has yet to respond to the issue.
Disney-Pixar's "Finding Dory" will be out in theaters on June 17, while Disney's "Frozen 2" is set for release in 2018.
