OnePlus abandons the invite system for its new device OnePlus 3, which is announced to be released on Tuesday, June 14. Consumers that visit OnePlus store website can now buy a smartphone unlike the buying options that were available for its earlier devices.
When the first device was released by OnePlus, consumers were expected to get a special code to buy the smartphones. Later on, the buyers were asked to get an invitation from users that already own an OnePlus smartphone. Another option to be eligible for buying the phone included completing a community engagement task on social media.
Instant buying option which wasn't available earlier is now introduced by OnePlus for its upcoming device. Initially the company wasn't interested in the flash sale because only few users can buy the devices, on the other hand, as a startup company it didn't want to stock up devices without any idea on the demand.
"When we started this company, we had no idea how many people would want to buy our products," said OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, reported Wired. "We didn't want to risk a situation where people would come to our website and find out we had no stock, and no ETA on when we would get it. For us it's more important to grow sustainably rather than fast, so we'd rather err on the side of caution."
Now that two devices had a huge success and the company stood up to its expectation, it has decided to put an end to the invitation system. Initially, the company had to manage expectations, not over or underestimate the demand for the product.
"In year three it's really hard to keep asking people to understand that you're a young company and still trying to understand how to handle a supply chain," Pei said, according to Wired. "It's about time that we stopped giving ourselves excuses."
It is reported that the device will be available on 14 June at 12:30 pm ET, first through the VR app while the reality buyers should wait for another 45 minutes for the smartphone to be released in OnePlus stores official website, noted Verge.
