Tropical storm Colin is heading towards Florida with gusty winds on Monday. It is expected to bring heavy rains and flooding in some parts of Florida and the Southeast.
Storm Colin will have a maximum sustained winds around 50mph on Monday night. It will strengthen by Tuesday. On the other hand, the forecasters said that they do not expect storm Colin's wind speed to reach 74 mph, which categorizes it as a hurricane.
It is located about 35 miles south-southeast of Apalachicola, Florida. That is about 95 miles west of Cedar Key, Florida. It is moving to the northeast at 23 mph as of 5 p.m. EDT Monday, according to the Weather.
The residents in the town of St. Marks just south of Tallahassee are preparing for the coming of the said tropical storm. John Hargan, a bartender at the Riverside Café, said that they are not worried. He added that they have been working all morning buttoning everything up. He also said that St. Marks is a very tight community and they always help each other out, according to USA Today.
The main threat of the storm Colin is a heavy rain with 3 to 5 inches likely across parts of Florida, southeastern Georgia and the coastal Carolinas with locally up to 8 inches possible. Its winds will spread from parts of Florida to the Southeast coast on Monday night up to Tuesday. There is also a possibility of high surf and coastal flooding on Monday afternoon and evening.
The weather officials have warned the swimmers, surfers and boaters to avoid getting in the water as dangerous rip currents are expected to come along Florida's eastern and western shores.
