The U.S. Army will celebrate its 241st birthday in New York City on Tuesday, June 14 at 9:45 A.M. The U.S. Army is the emblem of the strategic land power of the joint force and called upon to prevent, shape and win against U.S. adversaries. It is significant to celebrate such occasion in the history of the United States.
Chief of Staff of the Army Gen.Mark A. Milley stated that their most valued assets, indeed, the Nation's most valued assets, are the Soldiers and their solemn commitment must always be to never send them into harm's way untrained, poorly led, undermanned, or with less than the best equipment they can provide.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Army Eric K. Fanning said that few understand the missions of the Army. In addition to winning a war, the Army deters enemies, assures allies, builds partners capacity, empowers the joint fight through foundational capabilities and respond to national emergencies like they see today with floods and severe weather.
Lt.Gen.Robert L. Caslen, Jr., United States Military Academy superintendent, will host the celebration on Military Island, Times Square, New York City (7th Ave. and West 44th Street). The birthday celebration ceremony will begin with a pre-show music that will be presented by The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." Brig. Gen. (ret.) Loree Sutton, M.D., New York City Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs commissioner will bestow the New York City proclamation, announcing June 14 "United States Army Day" in the City of New York.
There will be recognition of former Soldiers and current members of the New York Police Department and Fire Department New York for their military service and commitment to serving and protecting the public. Meanwhile, the future Soldiers will have their swearing-in ceremony. About 100 young women and men from the New York area will enlist in the Army.
There is also the official birthday cake-cutting ceremony. The cake is given by "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro, Carlo's Bakery. The Army 241st birthday celebration is open to the public for FREE.
