Apple's highly anticipated next gen smartwatch possibly dubbed Apple Watch 2 was rumored to get unveiled at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), but there was zero talk about the wearable tech at the event. Now, new reports suggest Apple Watch 2 might get released alongside other Apple products in September including the highly anticipated iPhone 7.
In fact, there are also speculations which suggest that Apple Watch 2 might come with a built-in camera. Recently published Apple Watch specific patent applications by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office teases that the Cupertino may introduce one or two cameras in a future version of the watch.
One of the patent pictures clearly shows the user interface section including the word 'camera' alongside touch sensor, audio jack, microphone, display and speakers.
The patent application document also refers to "a compact digital camera that includes an image sensor such as a CMOS sensor and optical components (e.g. lenses) arranged to focus an image onto the image sensor, along with control logic operable to use the imaging components to capture and store still and/or video images."
However, it remains to be seen whether or not the upcoming Apple Watch 2 gets a camera.
According to Digitimes, sources from Apple's supply chain have confirmed that the shipments of the chips and components for the second-generation Apple Watch will begin in next quarter, and based on the order, the iPhone maker is planning to ship about two million units of the next gen smartwatch every month.
It is rumored that the upcoming Apple Watch 2 might mirror the design of the original iteration, but come preloaded with impressive internal specifications. The yet to be released smartwatch is expected to be 20 percent to 40 percent slimmer than its predecessor.
Rumors suggest the Apple Watch 2 will feature true cellular connectivity and will enable users to make calls, send texts and connect to the internet without using iPhone. The smartwatch is expected to pack an ARM Cortex A32 processor, which is almost 25 percent faster than the current ARM-based processor and offers improved battery life.
We advise our readers to take the information with a grain of salt as nothing yet has been officially announced by Apple.
