Game developer Capcom's upcoming installment in the Resident Evil franchise dubbed "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" was recently announced at Sony's E3 2016 press conference. A new game demo was also released to the delight of the fans.

The game's official demo was packed with supernatural references, forcing fans to believe that the full game would essentially be a ghost story.

However, game developer Kōshi Nakanishi confirmed in a Capcom Unity blog post that that fans need not to worry as they have not thrown out "Resident Evil" and turned it into a ghost story completely. In fact, he said the video game will make sense in the end.

"The teaser demo is a bespoke experience that isn't just a slice of gameplay from the main game," Nakanishi said adding that it's "kind of a tonal preview instead of a content preview."

Nakanishi also revealed that the protagonist in the new game will be an ordinary person and there will be no Chris or Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine in the game this time.

"You can't be looking through the perspective of a macho, hero character because that's not you at home," the developer said. "Or maybe you are macho, I don't know [laughs]. It's sort of a powerless, ordinary person you're playing as. We're not really talking in too much detail about who they are right now, but they're an ordinary person stuck in an extraordinary situation. I think that really brings the horror right to the fore."

Producer Masachika Kawata also revealed that they have replaced the experienced zombie killer with an ordinary protagonist in "Resident Evil 7 Biohazard", which means that gamers will not be playing in a first-person perspective as a hero who is equipped or powerful. Instead, Kawata said it's just going to be a "powerless, ordinary person."

Nakanishi also clarified that "Resident Evil 7" is not a reboot of the series, but an existing sequel to the main games. "Resident Evil 7 Biohazard" is set to be released on January 24, 2017 and will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, Xbox One, and the PC.
