There were rumors of Motorola planning to discontinue its highly popular Moto X series and replace it with a new Z family, however, new reports suggests the new Moto X 2016 is surely in company's pipeline.

In fact, the smartphone maker has itself confirmed that they are not replacing the Moto X series and that they will continue the popular series with exceptional features.

"Moto X is alive and well. In fact, Moto X Force recently launched in multiple new markets around the world," said Motorola, reported Android Police. "Moto X and Moto Z do share some great qualities, but they ultimately provide different experiences and make our portfolio more robust for consumers looking for the perfect smartphone to fit their needs."

Recently, a new Motorola smartphone, with model name Motorola XT1662, was spotted on GFXBench benchmark website, which is expected to be the highly anticipated Moto X 2016 smartphone. The GFXBench listing revealed the alleged handset's specification and key features.

As per the listing, the Moto X 2016 will feature a 4.6-inch full HD display (1920×1080 pixels), powered by a MediaTek MT6755 chipset, an octa-core Helio 10 processor clocked at 2.1 GHz, Mali-T860 graphics, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage that is expandable via microSD.

The upcoming X-series smartphone will come with a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper. The handset will run the updated version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with the possible upgrade option for the upcoming Android N OS. The handset will also support single SIM, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, light sensor, pedometer, and proximity.

The GFXBench listing does not include the battery information of the device. The specs enumerated hints that the Moto X 2016 will be a midrange device. While, information about Moto X 2016 release date is still unavailable, it is expected that the handset might get released sometime later this year.

We would advise our readers to take the information with a big grain of salt as nothing yet has been confirmed by the makers.
