Google Nexus 2016 Release Date, Specs, Update: Launch Set In August Alongside Android Nougat?

It seems rumors about Google's highly anticipated Nexus 2016 smartphones will keep on piling up every day until the devices' release date gets finally announced. Now, new reports suggest Google will launch its next batch of Nexus 2016 devices internally named as S1 and M1 and codenamed "Marlin" and "Sailfish" sometime next month.

According to Mobile & Apps, the Nexus smartphones could see a release alongside the search giant's new operating system Android Nougat. Android N launch is expected to get an August launch. Rumor mills have it that Google will debut the new OS on its upcoming Nexus 2016 smartphones.

Recently, Android Police published a report with Photoshop renders of the upcoming 2016 Nexus phones. The publication gave the leaks a confidence level of 8 out of 10.

The picture shows a two-tone black on black design with the letter "G" on the back with no HTC logo. The handset in the picture features an aluminum body with a glass back casing that forms about a third of the frame. It remains to be seen if the 2016 Google Nexus phone will include an HTC logo or not.

In related news, HTC Nexus 2016 "Marlin" M1 smartphone was recently spotted on GeekBench benchmarking site. As per specs revealed in the benchmarking site, the supposed HTC Nexus "Marlin" device will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution and run on a quad-core Qualcomm SoC, which is most likely the latest Snapdragon 820, with a recorded clock speed of 1.59GHz. The leak claims that the handset will come with 4 GB of random access memory (RAM) and include up to 128GB internal storage.

The handset is rumored to come packed with a 12-megapixel main camera enabled with LED flash and an 8-megapixel front facing camera. The HTC Nexus "Marlin" is also supposed to include USB Type-C port and a fingerprint reader. Two speaker grills are expected at the bottom of the device.

The second Nexus smartphone HTC Sailfish phone is expected to feature a 5-inch FullHD display, a Quad-core 2.0GHz 64-bit chip, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera and a 2,770mAh battery.

Other rumored specs include a rear panel fingerprint scanner, a USB Type-C port, bottom facing speakers, a top mounted headphone jack and Bluetooth 4.2. The smartphone is expected to run Google's upcoming operating system, Android Nougat. The device is expected to be a mid-range device.
