The Prisma photo app, that has been taking social media by storm over the two months, is reportedly out of beta and can be availed on Play Store. The app was originally popular on iOS and was on beta mode on Android and then quickly made a transition to a non functional state, since then. According to reports, the iOS functionality of the app has been ported over to Android therefore users should generally not feel any difference in terms of features or experience.

The Prisma app comprises of a series of artistic filters that can be used to change the overall look and feel of photos, after which users can share the Prisma effect photos on popular social media sites like Facebook and Instagram, among others through the Android share menu. The Prisma app can be downloaded free and is available on Android 4.1 and up.

It is interesting to note that though there have been scores of similar photo effect filters on Instagram and numerous other such apps, the popularity associated with Prisma has reached an unparalleled level.  The reason lies in the fact that Prisma is actually different and has created a niche of its own. The filters associated with the app are varied in range and quite dramatic, as a result each photo that is walked through the Prisma app turns out looking like an expressionist painting. Also, the filtered photos do not undergo a mere edit but are actually transformed through a neural network processing. Therefore, in certain instances it is difficult to believe that the Prisma filtered images are actually a byproduct of semi-automatic digital tools. The app also has filters that are named after the artists that inspired their creation.

The Prisma filter effects can be adjusted according to individual needs of users with a simple swipe gesture. However, it should be noted that absolute customization of the filters is not possible, and those who are looking at intricate fine tuning and effects should look for other apps. Currently, Prisma does not include any in-app purchases. The Prisma app is great for those on the go and people who want to quickly turnaround their photos with minimum effort. In addition, the app can act as its own camera apart from including the convenience of easily importing photos from the phone gallery.
