Spotify, Apple Music and other music streaming service may need to watch their back as a new rival is set to be launched at a much lower rate. A new report has revealed that Amazon plans to provide a subscription music streaming service for as low as $4 or $5 per month, with the catch being that only Amazon Echo owners would be able to use it.
Amazon Echo is a voice-enabled wireless, tall cylindrical speaker with a seven-piece microphone array. The device responds to its "wake word" Alexa, which buyers may change to "Amazon" or "Echo".
It is capable of voice interaction, music playback, streaming podcasts, making to-do lists, setting alarms, playing audio books. I can also provide traffic, weather and other real-time information. Christina Beck shares "Place it in your living room and forget about it - until you want something, that is. Then, because the Echo is always on and responds to voice commands alone, all you have to do is speak to it," according to Christian Science Monitor.
The hardware is already offering Pandora, Spotify, and iHeartRadio but it is still limited. The company wants to upgrade their system with half the price, but with more perks along with the others already available.
"Amazon Music" already provides free music for Amazon Prime subscribers. Though it has a limited catalog, consumers can ask Echo to play among the selected feature songs they want to hear. Since competition is rising, Amazon plans to provide loyalists a new service for a low cost, which other companies offer for a higher price, Recode.com reported.
