With Wear Red Day just around the corner, part of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign, it's important for everybody to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves against heart disease.
Friday, February 1st will mark the 10th annual National Wear Red Day for people around the country to support ladies in their lives who have suffered the debilitating devastation of a heart attack or who have lost a loved one to heart disease and want to make a difference.
For some, that difference means running or walking in a marathon to help raise money for the cause. Many will also sport the pink and red colors that help make our friends and loved ones shine on this day for helping out and giving back. But for others, they'll make bigger changes that are more permanent and lasting, such as teaching their friends or family about the symptoms to look for with heart problems and making some simple lifestyle changes to prevent poor health from happening in the first place.
As the saying goes, knowing is half the battle. So knowing the symptoms of a heart attack are the first step in the right direction. Things such as excessive fatigue, neck and shoulder pain, loss of appetite and indigestion problems are all symptoms that could be signs of a heart attack and need to be addressed quickly by a health care provider according to the American Heart Association.
And, of course, it goes without saying, prevent the problem before it takes place. That's why it's important to have a healthy diet and practice good eating habits. A few little changes and you can make a big difference in your life and the lives of those who matter most.
