If you're looking in the market to buy a new phone, here's an offer to consider. On Tuesday, Amazon added the Moto G Play to its collection of Prime Exclusive handsets, available for $99.99, a discount of $50 from its full retail price.
Amazon has discounted the price for the smart-phones because they display ads for products and services from Amazon, reports The Verge. The new model is the Moto G Play, which sells for $99.99 and will start shipping on September 15th.
Features
The Moto G Play is the least expensive model in Lenovo's Moto G family and has lower-end specs than the Moto G, which is also available as a Prime exclusive. The Play has:
- Screen: 5-inch 720p display,
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor,
- Memory: 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage plus microSD card expansion,
- Battery: 2,800mAh battery,
- Camera: 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front camera.
According to PC Mag, the Android-powered smart-phone has modest specs but is unlocked and supports various flavors of 4G LTE. Specifically the Moto G Play will be compatible with the big four US wireless carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon) and likewise supports both CDMA and GSM cellular networks.
Price
Amazon's Prime exclusive version is priced $50 below the standard version handset for $99.99 that does not have ads. Amazon says that its other Prime exclusive phones, the Blu R1 HD and Moto G, have been two of the best-selling unlocked phones on the site. The Blu is priced below the new G Play at $49.99, while the Moto G is more expensive at $149.99.
Review
The phone is unlocked, meaning you're not getting stuck in a service contract, but there is a catch: As a trade-off for the $50 discount, buyers will have to contend with personalized offers and ads displayed on the phone's lockscreen. A full-price version of the handset without ads is also available on Amazon for Prime and non-Prime members.
"Unlocked phones are the fastest growing category within cell phones on Amazon-and now our Prime exclusive phones are two of our best-selling unlocked phones," Laura Orvidas, Amazon's Vice President of Consumer Electronics said in a statement.
The new offer comes with exclusive pricing for Prime members. People seem to be digging the offer: Since the BLU R1 HD and Moto G launched, the handsets have outsold all other unlocked smartphones on Amazon, the company said. Now, Prime members will have another option to choose from with the Moto G Play. It's available for pre-order today, and is slated to ship on Sept. 15.
