With the release of the new VR SDK update, Google's Daydream VR platform is now out from its Beta Version and open for VR developers' complete consideration. The kit will now allow the VR developers to make VR experiences for all the Google's Daydream VR platform-ready phones as well as Daydream VR headsets, the company stated earlier. After the VR SDK update, Daydream will now support amalgamation with the Unity and Unreal game engines and tools.
Google first revealed its Daydream VR Platform at company's I/O earlier this year as an ambitious advance to the Google Cardboard. The announcement was made along with the reports that Google would create its own Daydream VR headsets. The idea behind Google Daydream VR platform that is to come baked into the Nougat (Android 7.0), is to transform favorite apps of the users into virtual reality with the new VR SDK update.
According to a report by TechCrunch, a number of apps including Netflix,HBO, The Wall Street Journal, as well as a number of games developers, including Electronic Arts and Ubisoft will be available at the time of its launch. The Google Daydream VR platform is to come along with a home launcher as well as a storefront for its VR content, Google had previously stated.
The new VR SDK update has simplified the common development tasks so that the VR developers can now focus more on building their apps, Google stated in an announcement about the release. The VR SDK is available now to all the VR developers working on the Google Daydream VR platform via the Daydream developers website. Nathan Martz, Product Manager, Google VR wrote earlier that the VR SDK will also support high fidelity spatialized audio, integrated asynchronous reprojection as well as interactions by using the Daydream controller. The VR developer site has already been updated with sample apps, tutorials, and full documentation so as to help the new VR developers to get Daydream started.
The Google Daydream VR platform's new native integration with Unity has added support for additional features including deep linking, head tracking along with easy Android manifest configuration. The Unreal engine (UE4)'s integration has also been improved and it now includes Daydream controller support, a neck model, new rendering optimizations, and much more.
It has already been announced that the first VR platform ready phones and Daydream VR headsets won't be available until later this fall. Google is still working on its toes to get all the major apps ready when the VR Platform hits the market. It's also opened up the Daydream Access Program (DAP) yesterday. Only VR developers who are already members will be able to launch their apps on Google Play, and they'll also get the first look at all the updates to the Daydream's VR developer tools. If you are a developer interested in the same, apply to join the program by clicking here.
