Amazon is adding new features to its voice assistant Alexa device. Amazon is trying to make Echo an essential device in customers home and boost sales. For Alexa to become an essential it will need many additional features, an Amazon seems to know that well.
Amazon has launched Music unlimited, which is a subscription-based music streaming service. It will compete with the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, and other on-demand music streaming services. Amazon's Music unlimited will have tens of millions of songs, unlike its Prime music service which catered with only two million songs.
Amazon's competitive edge is in the manner in which it will stream the music. Amazon's Music unlimited is a close knit service with its Echo devices. By using Amazon's music streaming services, a user simply asks the Echo speaker to play a song instead of fiddling with the phone to play a song.
Amazon's Vice president of digital music, Steve Boom, Said, "We think the next phase of growth for streaming is really going to come in the home." When he said that, he did mean it.
Amazon Echo - Spatial Perception
Amazon has now introduced the Spatial perception feature to the Echo devices. Amazon has considered that there are multiple Alexa devices in a home and it may be a problem to get the attention of the nearest Alexa device. as reported in TechCrunch.
With Spatial Perception feature, Echo devices will scientifically recognize the closed Echo speaker and then act accordingly. It essentially solves the problem of multiple devices waiting for your command.
Amazon has started rolling out some of the devices with Spatial Perception feature. It will be seen in first-generation Echoes and Dots first, then after a few weeks in the second generation devices too.
Josh Olson, a technology analyst at Edward Jones, said, "Whatever can ultimately drive more profitable volume or traffic to their e-commerce business is really their grand approach." as reported in NYTimes.
It makes sense as consumers can use Echo devices to shop from Amazon. As experts have rightly pointed out the Amazon Music Unlimited streaming, Spatial Perception feature in Echo devices , are all just means to provide complete automated solutions.
