Looking at the name you might be thinking "E-Tron" to be an old model as the name has been used for previous models in the past. Even the famous supercar, R8 used in "Iron Man 3" movie was called "E-Tron" by the automaker. But, the model's production has been stopped.
Latest reports say that the company plans on naming its first electric vehicle as the E-Tron. Audi explained their tactic on naming the upcoming car as such on the basis of what it used to do in the past. To be more specific, the company named its vehicle as the "Quattro" back in 1980s.
"It is comparable to the first Audi Quattro, which was known simply as the Quattro," Audi chief, Rupert Stadler, said in a published post. "In the long term the name E-Tron will stand for a pure electric driveline structure."
It feels a little odd thinking of choosing the name, "E-Tron" as it was used before as well. But, as Stadler stated in the above quotes, there will be a new line of electric vehicles under Audi with E-Tron being a series of such cars.
These updates clearly show that Audi is ready to get in the race against other high-end competitors such as Mercedes and BMW who are into the electric vehicle automotive market as well.
Looking at the future of cars, it is inevitable that automotive industry is planning to focus on the EV market. Electric powered vehicles will also deliver a renewable source of energy with zero emissions. So, it is worth entering if the right tactics are applied.
While the first model is said to be an SUV, Audi plans on releasing a sedan and a hatchback in the upcoming years (probably by the end of 2020). Keep yourself updated with further news about the company and its latest vehicles through our tech newsfeed.
