While this new headset is geared towards using Android phones as the main source of content, it differs from Google's initial VR program - the Google Cardboard. Moreover, the main difference of the Google Daydream View VR headset from the Google Cardboard is that it is an Android-only headset. Included in the Daydream View Headset, the controller has a clickable touchpad.

Aside from the Google Daydream View Headset and the Google Cardboard, the Google Daydream platform can be used by other VR headsets as long as it meets Google's specification. The user only needs to use a Daydream-ready Android smartphone. As of the moment, the Daydream View VR Headset needs Google's newest smartphone, the Pixel or the Pixel XL to work. Users of other Android smartphones will have to wait as Google will announce the list of Daydream View compatible phones in the near future.
