The CyanogenMod community has announced an Android 7.1 Nougat update, Nightly CM14.1 for select devices. Steve Kodnik published the news on the official blog and revealed the names of select devices that will get the update.

Android 7.1 Nougat update will be available for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, LG G3,LG G4, Xiaomi Mi3, Xiaomi Mi 4,OnePlus 3,Galaxy S5,HTC One, and ZenFone 2. The update for other devices would be rolled out at later stages.

The nightly build is not the final product and is always full of bugs. It is released to the users to find out bugs that users can unearth. Steve in the blog post requested users to not file a bug report for missing features as the update was a work in progress. CyanogenMod is using crowd development and hopes more people can get involved in the project, as reported by NDTV.

The CyanogenMod software update has a better UI experience and notification orders. The device will have a better battery life with the update. It will also enable status bar clock customization, double tap sleep, brightness control via status bar and access to setting via a quick pull-down.

The Android 7.1 Nougat update by Cyanogen is an experimental project and hence it is important that before downloading it users should take certain precautions. Before installing the custom ROM it is essential that the device is rooted. The device also should have more than 80 percent battery. The update is compatible with only certain devices and that too GSM. If a wrong ROM is installed it can result in the devices being bricked.

Kodnik noted that CyanogenMod will release monthly snapshots of bugs that are fixed. Once all the issues are fixed it will release a stable Android 7.1 Nougat update, CM14. You can download the update from here.
