The 'World War Z' actor Brad Pitt,49, says he has difficulty remembering faces and suspect he may be suffering from prosopagnosia, a disorder of face perception.
Also known as face blindness, prosopagnosia is a disorder in which a person fails to recognize faces. It is often accompanied by other types of recognition impairments but is mostly restricted to facial identity. Victims have a problem recognizing family members or close friends and this sometimes triggers social problems.
In an interview with 'Esquire Magazine' Pitt said that he frequently forgets conversations he has had with someone and what the person looks like. The moment a person walks away from him he forgets what that person looked like.
"So many people hate me because they think I'm disrespecting them. People were more offended. Every now and then, someone will give me context, and I'll say, 'Thank you for helping me.' But I piss more people off. You get this thing, like, 'You're being egotistical. You're being conceited.' But it's a mystery to me, man. I can't grasp a face, and yet I come from such a design/aesthetic point of view," revealed Pitt, reports UPI.
Pitt said he planned to get tested for prosopagnosia. He said he prefers staying at home in order to minimize on the people he offends by failing to recognize them. This condition has caused a lot of problem to Pitt who is a father of six children and fiancé of Jolie.
After coming to know of Pitt's problem, the Carnegie Mellon University extended an invitation to the actor to have his brain imaged and examined by neuroscientist, Marlene Behrmann, according to a press release.
