Kim Kardashian the fashionista steals the limelight again after she revealed that she might be interested in eating her own placenta to maintain her good looks.
Reports according to The Huffington Post reveal that on Sunday's season premiere of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians', the 32-year-old reality television star, who is planning a diva delivery for the birth of her baby, revealed her interest in eating her own placenta. She is expecting her first child with boyfriend Kayne West - an American rapper, producer, actor and fashion designer.
It looks like Kim is impressed with Holly Madison and January Jones, who caught headlines after they proudly declared their plans of eating their own placenta after delivering their children. The two had their placenta dried and converted into capsules for easy ingestion. Doing this helped them stave off postpartum depression and also cure several ailments.
During one of the episodes, Kim is seen asking her doctor, "Do you think it makes you look younger?" To which her doctor replied, "Some people believe in that. There are cookbooks on placentas." On listening to this Kim's mother Kris retorted saying, "Yuck! I don't think we're going to be eating the fountain of youth, if you know what I mean." To which Kim replied, "I really want to do it," reports The Huffington Post.
"Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins," Madison was quoted as saying in People magazine. "It's something I was very hesitant about, but we're the only mammals who don't ingest our own placentas. It's not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all moms!"
As explained by MNN's Matt Hickman, the practice of placentophagy, or the eating of one's placenta after birth, offers some nutritional and hormonal benefits. Those who eat the human placenta consume it by either having it frozen-dried and crushed into some supplements or included into a meal in place of beef. It is assumed that consuming the organ staves off postpartum depression, maintains hormones and helps new mothers produce milk. Apart from this, it comes packed with vitamins like iron and B12 and several nutrients. Some committed vegans can plan on being an exception for a meal that consists of placenta.
Jennifer Mayer of Brooklyn Placenta Services was quoted in New York Magazine stating, "They're made by your body, for your body. Why wouldn't you want to try?"
It is not unusual that the fashion icon has chosen something out of the box to stay young and maintain her stunning looks and desirable curves. Earlier, the actress had opted for a very painful-looking "vampire facial" or "blood facial", a procedure where blood from the arm is injected into the face.
