Every now and then, some of us encounter a little unexpected surprise. And whether this means finding a quarter on the ground or forgetting to add flour to a cake recipe, the results can create a startling response.

For Elizabeth Whitehead--who thought severe stomach cramps warranted a trip to the emergency room--the 21-year-old resident of Barnegat Township in New Jersey found out she was pregnant on Tuesday before she could make it out of her yard, and gave birth to a two-pound baby while out on the lawn.

"It all happened on the grass," Whitehead said, according to Patch. "His head was out when I was on the grass."

A police report from the town states that Whitehead's boyfriend, David Windham, called 911 to report the birth. Barnegat Township Police officers Vinnie Damiano and Michael Moore said the infant appeared to be three-months premature and wasn't breathing, at which officers performed CPR to revive the child. The boy was resuscitated and transported to the hospital shortly after, according to NBC

"Once I heard a little bit of the cry, it kind of made me jump a little bit," Moore said.

The couple are already parents to a 9-month-old boy. However, this is certainly an unexpected surprise as Patch reports that Whitehead said she had taken two pregnancy tests that both came back negative.

However, Whitehead also noted, according to the news organization, that she had stopped getting her period.

Despite that the newborn is only 24 weeks old, hospital reports confirm that the baby is in good hands and should be fine.
