Friday Whole Foods Market announced a recall for a line of cheeses due to dangerous listeria moocytogenes bacteria. The recalled cheese includes Crave Brotheres les frères cheese which was sold in Whole Food stores in over 30 states and Washington D.C.
Just Wednesday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration also linked a multi-state listeriosis outbreak caused by the bacteria to cheese produced by Cave Brothers Farmstead Cheese in Wisconsin, according to a statement made by the FDA that four people were sickened by consumption of the product-one of whom was killed.
According to ACB News, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture is testing samples of the product to look for early signs of contaminates. Further information regarding bacteria in the product is currently pending.
The recalled cheese sold at Whole Foods stores were sold under the names les frères and Crave Brothers les frères. These cheese products were also covered in plastic wrap with the Whole Food Markets brand labels on them.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes listeriosis as a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is an important public health problem in the United States. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, rarely, persons without these risk factors can also be affected. The risk may be reduced by recommendations for safe food preparation, consumption, and storage.
Make sure to throw away any of the products described above and if you feel you have symptoms similar to this description, seek immediate medical attention.
