Chinese scientists have found an effective way to cure hangovers - Sprite.

The research was carried by a team of scientists from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou. They studied more than 57 types of carbonated drinks, tea and herbal infusions and examined their effect on two enzymes called ALDH (aldehyde dehydrogenase) and ADH (alcohol dehydrogenase). ALDH enzyme can change acetaldehyde into acetate and reduce the hangover and ADH helps in cutting down the hangover time span by churning alcohol down to acetaldehyde.

The researchers found that Sprite and soda water were the most effective in depleting the effects of hangover by boosting the production of ALDH, which also helped in reducing the destructive effects of boozing.

The scientists studied the effects of beverages, herbal infusions and teas, to study what was effective in reducing hangover symptoms and what actually fuelled it. Herbal infusions and teas were found to decelerate the process of ADH and increasing the harmful effects of alcohol.

"These results are a reminder that herbal and other supplements can have pharmacological activities that can both harm and benefit our health," Edzard Ernst, professor of complementary medicine at the University of Exeter, said in a Chemistry World report.

Not just sprite, there are various other eatables and drinks, which are proven to curb hangover such as eggs, toast, bananas, fruit juices such as apple juice and coconut water, according to a site, greatest.com.

Drinking a lot of regular water too is a good way to lessen the effect of hangover as it helps in hydrating your body and flushing all the toxins away.

Various food and beverages that must be on your ignore list for hangovers are herbal drinks, coffee and orange juice.
