Reser's Fine Foods Recall: 22,800 Pounds of Chicken, Ham, Beef Contaminated

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is recalling 22,800 pounds of chicken, ham and beef products over concerns regarding a possible Listeria infection as of an announcement made Wednesday.

The USDA notes that the problem was first uncovered through testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. FDA investigation's revealed possible cross contamination with products that may contain bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

Produced by Reser's Fine Foods, the products were distributed in a wide range of stages, including the following: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

No reported illnesses have been received by either organizations at this time. However, the USDA recommends that concerned individuals contact a health care provider regarding any symptoms they may have.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that Listeriosis is a serious infection that though primarily affects older adults, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems, can harm anyone particularly with news of the recent announcement. Make sure to watch out for the products mentioned above. 

Symptoms regarding the health issue range from fever and muscle aches, to confusion, loss of balance, a stiff neck and even convulsions.
