A New Jersey homeowner was more than bewildered when she noticed a young deer wandering in her backyard with an arrow through its head.

The horrifying picture of the hapless deer with an arrow wedged through its muzzle was captured by Susan Darrah of Boonton, N.J on Friday. Despite this clean shot the deer was not bleeding.

Darrah immediately posted the pictures on Facebook stating, "Want to know what sucks? THIS!! Tried to capture him to no avail.....he can eat, run and there's no blood, less chance of infection. I just feel so bad for him..."

The moment she spotted the deer in her backyard, close to the Split Rock Reservoir, she informed the state's fish and game department as well as the animal control to help to deer.

According to the N.J Star-Ledger, Darrah's yard is a hot spot for a herd of deer's who come there ever since it has a large pear tree. She believes that the deer was shot with an arrow by a hunter during the ongoing bow hunting season that was recently opened.

"I know a lot of hunters and I know that was nothing done intentionally," Darrah said to N.J Star-Ledger. "I'm sure if any hunter saw him, they would have been kind of enough to put him down."

Based on the advice of the Fish & Wildlife representative, Darrah left some corn to attract the wounded deer that made an appearance in her backyard more than once. She spotted the deer on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.

The crew, who are on a hunt for the wounded deer, will tranquilize the deer and remove the arrow in order to prevent any infection.
