A shocking story of a Kenyan woman may dampen women's obsession for hair weaves, a noticeable growing trend.  The woman was fitted with a maggot-infested hair weave taken from corpses, which gnawed into her skull.

Irene Myangoh, a personal assistant working at a law firm in Nairobi complained of frequent headaches two weeks after she got a human hair weave done. The headaches kept her up whole nights and all medications to reduce her pain failed.

With no relief from the painkillers, she approached a specialist who later conducted blood tests and brain scans. The good news was that all the tests were negative but the headaches didn't reduce. The doctor was finally forced to examine her scalp and was shocked to see worms crawling beneath her beautiful weave, reports ireporterstv.

The doctor noticed that the worms were burrowing into her skull. A lab analysis found that several eggs were present in the hair from which worms were hatching.

The doctor strongly believed that the hair belonged to a corpse because the worms found in the weave are generally found in dead bodies.

What is even more shocking is that the salon manager has managed to fit ten weaves from the same package. And the weave used for Irene was the one that sold like hot cakes in less than a month. Nearly 150 ladies are likely to suffer from the same problem as Irene as the salon sold 150 pieces.

"I am shocked to hear this because this is the first time such a thing is happening to my clients," the manager, who did not want to be named, told Daily Mail. "I will get more information from my supplier because we import these weaves from the UK, USA and India."

The salon manager believes that the supplier might have given him rejected packages from the factory or the weaves were old and had been stores for a long period.

On the other hand, Irene, the unfortunate victim, was left with no option but to shave her beautiful locks and take a long course of antibiotics.

Dr CK Musau, a surgeon at a Nairobi hospital, told iReportersTV that he had dealt with ten similar cases in the last six months. He stated, "It is unfortunate how the West has influenced Kenyan youth, especially ladies. They should stick to their natural African beauty as opposed to trying to ape what they see."
