Rare, Identical Triplets Born in California: No Fertility Drugs Involved (Video)
California couple Hannah and Tom Hepner welcomed three rare and identical triplet baby girls on Nov. 22 without the help of any fertility treatments. The three babies, Abby, Brin (short for Brindabella) and Laurel, will remain in the neonatal intensive care unit at Sutter Memorial in Sacromento for about another week before they can go home with their family, according to KCRA.
"This is a one-in-a-million to a one-in-200-millino possibility-or, about the same chances as winning the Mega Millions lottery jackpot," according to experts.
The hospital's news release notes that Abby weighed 3 pounds, 2 ounces; Brin weighed 3 pounds, 11 ounces; and Laurel weighed 4 pounds.
Identicals may look alike (i.e., twins, tripls, etc.,) but don't let this fool you. They are not clones of each other. There is simply no such thing. For instance, despite that these infants all carry similar characteristics or traits, their fingerprints will show that despite what we see, everyone is quite different.
The parents are certainly happy and excited to bring their babies home, according to various reports. Yet they were also very surprised to find out they would be pregnant with more than one baby.
"When we first found out, we just sort of laughed in that nervous way," Hannah said, via the news organization. "It's overwhelming to think of everything that's to come."
However, when asked if the parents had plans for more children in the future, the mother respectfully declined the idea. Well, at least for now.
"This is more than we bargained for. I think we're good."
