Could a New Bed Help Prevent Snoring?
Whether it's you or your partner, snoring can greatly disrupt a good night's rest. Yet a new bed that's being introduced by the company Sleep Number may be able to help out those suffering from this issue. Granted, it might cost around $10,000, but the new technology is allegedly equipped with information to track sleeping patterns by monitoring an individual's heart and breathing rate.
The product, which debuted at the Consumer Electronic Show, cost approximately $7,999 for the queen-size version and comes with built-in Sleep IQ Technology that helps couples dealing with this snoring get some better zzz's.
"It actually raises the head," said the chief product officer Annie Bloomquist, via USA Today. "It's an ever so slight articulation and it at least temporarily relieves your spouse's snoring."
Through the technology of a Partner Snore feature, a universal remote control can raise an individual's head via the Advance DualAir bed to approximately five degrees in order to change the position of the sleeper and hopefully, stop snoring.
Besides this features, the creators note that it can help track individual's sleeping patterns and determine their optimal sleep via breathing and heart rate as well as time spent lying stationary or moving around. The technology used for this device comes from BAM labs, making all of these new beds equipped also with Wi-Fi in order for them to properly perform these functions.
The queen size version will go on sale as of February 8th.
For those who snore frequently, which could be a sign of sleep apnea-typically a health issue that occurs more often in men, overweight individuals or those over 40 in which individuals stop breathing temporarily-this could be a good purchase to make in the new year. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to hypertension, stroke, heart failure, and in some cases, even death.
