Kraft Velveeta Recall: USDA Pulls 1.77 Million Pounds of Product
The USDA announced Sunday that more than 1 million pounds of microwaveable Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets are being recalled due to possible misbranding and undeclared allergens.
The products contain hydrolyzed soy protein and dried soy sauce-two commonly known allergens that when undeclared in labels, can result in severe health issues for some, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Approximately 1.77 million pounds of 3.3 pound cases containing 9-ounce Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles "Ultimate Cheeseburger Mac," a product that's currently sold nationwide and produced by Truitt Brothers Inc. in East Bernstadt, Ky, were recalled, according to various organizations.
The affected products have a Use By/Sell By date code of "02 MARCH 2014 - 23 OCT 2014" and were produced between May 6, 2013 and Jan. 16, 2014.
Identifying case codes are:
- 00210000432900
- 00210000432910
- 00210000432925
- 00210000464000
- 00210000465100
According to the Food Poisoning Bulletin, researchers believe that the problem was discovered during a routine quality check. They discovered that products contained mixed labels with incorrect ingredient lines along with labels containing correct ingredient information.
No other Velveeta or Kraft products are affected in the recall, according to officials.
At this time, the FSIS nor the company have received reports regarding adverse affects due to consumption of the products. However, if anyone is in possession of them, they can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, according to the news organization.
