Dole Recall: Bagged Salad may have Listeria
Dole Fresh Vegetables has recently announced that they are recalling bagged salad products due to possible listeria contamination. The company was notified regarding the risk after a sample of Dole Italian Salad tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, with testing conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
"No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall," the company announced according to ABC News. "[The company is] coordinating closely with regulatory officials."
The voluntary recall includes bags of Fresh selections Italian Style Blend, Italian Blend, Little Salad Bar Italian Salad and Marketside Italian Style Salad.
The products in question all have a use-by data of March 12, which can be found on the upper right-hand corner of the 10-ounce bag. The products were distributed in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, according to various reports.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that listeria is a bacterial infection that can possibly result in miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant women. Many of the symptoms include fever, nausea, muscle aches, balance problems, diarrhea and general confusion.
