Global Selfie: NASA Asks for a #GlobalSelfie This Earth Day
On the eve of the 44th anniversary of Earth Day, NASA has initiated a global celebration inviting people to take a global selfie.
The space agency, NASA, is encouraging people all over the globe to step outside and celebrate environmental awareness by participating in the Earth Day event celebrated on April 22; all you have to do is take a #globalselfie.
Earth Day is a big event for NASA Earth science. There are five NASA missions that will be launched this year to gather crucial data about our blue planet. For Earth Science, NASA has arranged a campaign called 'Earth Right Now'.
What is a #GlobalSelfie?
As satellites focus on our home planet from the outer space, the space agency urges us to take a #globalselfie, "a picture of yourself wherever you are on Earth." This #globalselfie then has to be posted on social media using the hashtag #GlobalSelfie. Anyone anywhere on the globe can post a 'selfie' with their local environment as a backdrop. The photos uploaded on Twitter, Instagram or Google+ will be used to create a mosaic image of Earth.
With this new event NASA plans on creating a new 'Blue Marble', made up of photos of millions of earthlings.
If you are confused on what backdrop you should choose, NASA solves this issue. It suggests people should step out and show the mountains, park, the sky, rivers, lakes or whatever is around you. With simple printable signs or with words written in sand or spelled on rocks, you should provide details of the place you are in.
To Participate in #GlobalSelfie:
NASA officials will screen the social media sites. Photos need to be posted on #GlobalSelfie event page on Facebook or the#GlobalSelfie group on Flickr. You can also join the #GlobalSelfie Google+ event page.
So don't forget, on April 22 step out for a second, say cheese and click a selfie.
