RoboGolfPro: New Golf Robot Teacher Analyzes the Physics of Your Swing (VIDEO)
Last week we saw President Obama interacting with Honda's ASIMO soccer-playing robot. Another incredible and new piece of robotics is the RoboGolfPro - the golf swing coach of the future with various capabilities.
So how is a robot going to teach you how to improve your golf swing? Well, it's physics, and sadly, it's likely more effective that your local club pro constantly tweaking something different in your swing every time you go for a lesson. You input all pertinent information into RoboGolfPro's computer and it does the rest.
Many don't realize how much is actually relevant for one's golf swing. But if you watch the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour, you can see that different pros have different styles merely because of their build, shape, strength, etc. When beginning with RoboGolfPro, you input your physical information into the computer (height, weight, age, etc.) and the machine takes into account your build, flexibility, and any other relative physical attributes.
Then you step up to the plate. The enormous machine holds a golf club by the shaft and you take hold of the grip. Based on the information you entered into the computer, the robot will guide your arms and body to formulate a golf swing and motion that is best fit for you. If you're a beginner, the robot will simply guide you through the motions. If you're an experience player, you can fix a slice or a hook in your swing.
The ultimate goal of the RoboGolfPro is to instill muscle memory. The player will remain on the machine as he/she takes multiple repetitions at different speeds to help nail down the technique. The player will then step off to hit a few balls to document any progress or any motions that need to be improved, and after that they're back on the machine to continue learning the new swing.
"The problem is that without the robot, it takes significantly more practice to achieve the same result simply because you won't get the instant "Ah-Ha" moment as you do on the RoboGolfPro," says the company website. "Golf coaches now have access to the most advanced golf training tool in the world."
Technology has come a long way now that it can help even the worst golfers in the world tweak their swing to the point where they aren't renovating the golf course with their crater-like divots.
