Thank famous author Norman Vincent Peale for this untimely quote: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."

While it's most likely meant to inspire strength, courage and diligence, some might take these two sentences a bit more literally. At least, Cameron Read did.

The 39-year-old Arizona man decided he was going to actually shoot the moon.

On June 6, Prescott Valley police headed to the home of a women who reported that her boyfriend had fired several shots from a handgun, which was unlawfully owned, according to The Arizona Daily Star.

According to his girlfriend, 49, and her 15-year-old son, Read had allegedly talked about seeing Halley's Comet on the night of the arrest and fired a round out the window. Unfortunately, Read misheard the  dates for this spectacular lightshow that comes around about every 76 years. (The next one is headed our way in 2061-2062) After the two others heard several shots, they soon fled the area.

Police said that Read has been booked in the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde, Ariz., based on suspicion of felony counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm, disorderly conduct, endangerment to a misdemeanor and resisting arrest, according to KPHO-TV.

Read also admitted to smoking marijuana before his attempts to shoot the moon.

As more states jump on the bandwagon in support of marijuana's medicinal and recreational uses, studies still work to decipher all of the benefits and potential long-term side-effects of the drug.
