The Tulsa Zoo is delighted to announce the arrival of three Malayan tiger cubs, that were born early this month.

The arrival of the three cubs - born August 3, 2014 - comes as good news for the endangered Malayan tiger population. The cubs were born to mom 'Jin' and dad 'Gahara'. According to the zoo authorities, this is the second most successful birth for this tiger pair.

The birth of these cubs was in conjunction with the Species Survival Plan (SSP), which manages the species in Association of Zoos, and Aquariums-accredited zoos across the nation.

Sadly, one the cubs failed to survive long after it was born. This is not uncommon in a large litter of cubs. The mother and the cubs remain under constant observation by the staff through the close circuit camera. Through this camera the staff can monitor the cubs at all times without disturbing them. The authorities claim that mother Jin is being very attentive to her cubs.

The staff has kept the unsexed cubs along with Jin in an off-exhibit area so that they continue to bond well until they are strong enough to safely navigate the zoo's current tiger exhibit.

It is estimated that nearly 500 Malayan tigers are there in the wild. They are found mainly in parts of Malaysia and Thailand. They inhabit the less dense forests, where they have surplus supply of food. They face a great threat from poaching and habitat loss.

Prior to this, Busch Gardens Tampa were thrilled to announce the birth of three cubs born March 31,2013. These cubs will add to the genetic diversity of the Malayan tiger population and also contribute to the conservation efforts for the species.
