Researchers have discovered wasps in the genus Spasskia--a species in a genus that is completely new to science.
The news species, now referred to as Spasskia brevicarinata, is very small and only estimated to be one about one centimeter long in both sexes. The findings are similar to that of a previously described species called Spasskia indica. However, this insect has different body ridges on some segments of its form.
In fact, the species epithet brevicarinata reflects a short ridge on its first tergite, as "brevi" is Latin for short and "carinata" is Latin for ridge.
More information regarding the findings can be seen via the Journal of Insect Science.
