Could Cell Phone Use Cause Brain Cancer?

Love your cell phone a little too much? While previous studies have questioned the health risks of being glued to your mobile device, recent findings published in the journal Pathophysiology show that for some users, there may be a higher risk of developing a specific type of brain tumor.

For the study, researchers compared 1,380 patients with malignant brain tumors to those without malignant brain tumors and looked for correlations in their cell phone use. They discovered that those who used cell phones for 20 to 25 years were about twice as likely to be diagnosed with the brain tumor known as glioma when compared to those who were not as "addicted" to their technological devices.

Furthermore, researchers found that those who used cell phones for more than 25 years were about three times as likely to develop glioma tumors. These findings are based on an International Agency for Research on Cancer in 2010. 

Another 2012 study showed that 5 out of 100,000 European cell phone users were diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor between 1995 and 2002.

However, researchers concluded that while the evidence hints at a possible connection between brain tumors and cell phones, there's not enough information to make such a state that cell phones cause brain cancer.
