Historians believe that cats may have evolved from trees, making it a bit more plausible for clumsy felines to make it out alive when they fall from incredible heights. The same cannot always be said for dogs, except in the case of a miraculous 13-year-old canine called Sam. This partially blind Boston terrier fell from the 15th floor of a Sacramento apartment building and survived.

According to Bill McCourt, Sam's owner, Sam would go to the balcony every day since they recently moved to Bridgeway Towers' apartment just about three years ago. Though McCourt is still uncertain as to what happened the day Sam fell, he thinks that he may have been confused with the balcony railing.

Fortunately, the dog fell straight into a Jacuzzi full of water. A couple of workers nearby heard a loud splashing right when Sam landed.

"My first thought was he must have got out and taken the stairs or the elevator or something," said McCourt's mother, via The Sacramento Bee. "But there's no way he could have gotten out of the condo. All of a sudden, I knew. It hit me immediately: he fell."

Though the chances of Sam's survival was low, he made it out with some rib fractures and a cut near his back that was soon stitched up. He was taken to the VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital for recovery treatments.

Previous studies have shown that because dogs cannot climb like cats, they are less like to land on their feet.
