Mother Gives Birth To Triplets On Christmas

Twenty-five-year-old Pennsylvania mother Courtney Stash welcomed babies Eoin, Claire and Averee on Christmas day. The babies who were born around 10:35 a.m., weighing in at around 4 pounds, according to Pennlive.

"When we found out at the ultrasound, all I could say was, 'What are we going to do?'" said father Justin Dwyer, via the news organization. "Courtney was all calm. She was saying, 'Is it cold outside? And all I kept saying was, 'What are we going to do?' Then she'd say, 'Can you remember to bring home some milk tonight?'"

The couple found they were expecting just a month and a half into the pregnancy. Triples are certainly rare as the chance is only about 124 per 100,000 births.

The young mother also has two other children, ages five and two.

"I have been so humbled by the generosity of everyone," Dwyer added. "I've had people I don't even know offer clothes, diapers, whatever."

Multiple pregnancies can certainly be a joy, but they can also pose a greater risk with more severe complications--the greatest issue being a more complicated delivery. 

According to the March of Dimes, close to 60 percent of all twins and more than 90 percent of triplets are born prematurely (before 37 weeks). The average twin pregnancy lasts 35 weeks. Triplet pregnancies average 33 weeks, and quad pregnancies average 29 weeks.

Fortunately, these new babies have had no health problems.
