Dogs have gained the title of "man's best friend," for their cheery attitude and enduring loyalty to their owners. However, these lovable animals are also known for their uncanny ability to scarf down just about anything. And that was certainly the case for Vince.

The 4-year-old mix breed had a heavy dinner the other night. He consumed a pair of calf-high women's Frye boots Friday afternoon.

His Philadelphia owners brought him to the local Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center (VSEC), qhwew health officials noted that the boots were so large that the dog's stomach was unable to pass the material into the small intestine and required surgery Saturday afternoon for recovery.

"These X-rays are absolutely remarkable, especially given that you can see and count the number of eyelets on the boots," said Dr. Laura Tseng, a board-certified specialist in critical care and emergency medicine with VSEC, told NBC Philadelphia. "The sheer volume of what he ate is impressive and caused a very serious emergency situation."

Oftentimes, surgery or endoscopy is needed when dogs eat something that they shouldn't have, as it can obstruct the digestive tract and perforate the intestines.

If you think your pet may have eaten something they shouldn't have, don't hesitate to contact your veterinarian as soon as you can. Obstructions can result in death, if they are not properly addressed.

Health officials note to look for lack of appetite, lethargy or vomiting, which may be a sign that a foreign body is present, according to The Associated Press (AP).
