Marijuana May Cause Addiction, Panic Attacks, Impaired Coordination and Nausea
While medical marijuana has been a boon to some, there are dangers when smoking weed. Scientists have found that leisure time consumption can cause panic attacks, impaired coordination of movement and nausea.
Cannabis is currently the most popular illegal drug in Germany. It was consumed by almost one in 20 adults in Germany just this past year, and an estimated on in 10 consumers will become dependent over time. This is especially important to note among adolescents, since they are more likely to become dependent than adults.
Currently, combination therapy, consisting of motivational support, cognitive behavioral therapy, and contingency management, is the most promising approach to help with addiction. This combination therapy together with family therapeutic intervention is especially important for adolescents.
However, addiction is not guaranteed, nor are the symptoms. The symptoms of use are largely dependent on the patient's age, the amount of drug consumed and the frequency of drug use. It also matters in which form the cannabis is consumed: as a joint, bong or hash cake.
In addition, this drug has a lot of use for those with epilepsy. In fact, researchers have found that marijuana in liquid form may actually decrease severe epilepsy in children. In addition, married couples who smoke marijuana are less likely to encounter domestic violence.
The findings are published in the journal Dtsch Arztebl.
