Giant Robot Battle: America Challenges Japan to Robotics Duel (VIDEO)
It's a battle of titans. America has challenged Japan to a giant robot battle and Japan has accepted.
In this case, the U.S. company MegaBots challenged Suidobashi Heavy Industry to a fight of robot versus robot. The challenge was issued in the form of a YouTube video, which the Japanese firm's chief Kogoro Kurata responded to in his own video.
The videos themselves actually seem to be a bit of ingenious viral marketing. Overall, the two videos have attracted more than 4.8 million views.
It's not all that surprising that the giant robot fight has managed to attract so much attention. BattleBots, a show that reached its peak in the 90s, has been revived on ABC with the addition of fire, ballistics and minibots.
Megabot's "Mark II" weighs in at 12,000 pounds and is powered by gasoline. It's piloted by two people and can fire three-pound paint cannons. In contrast, Suidobashi's "Kuratas" is operated by one person, weighs in at 9,000 pounds, and has twin Gatling guns.
Currently, no location or date has been set for the fight. However, it could take place in a year.
