Sunspot 1476 Poses a Threat for X-Class Solar Flares
The large solar spot 1476 currently producing M-Class solar flares is expected to produce much larger X-Class flares soon as spaceweather.com reported. This most powerful class of solar flares needs large amounts of energy, which seem to be present in the sunspot 1476 and could be released tomorrow.
As the spot is moving across the face of the sun, the earth is entering its line of fire now. Results could be geomagnetic storms and increased chances for auroras at high latitudes. Already now amateur astronomers detected strong radio bursts from the spots. Plasma instabilities are the cause of these bursts rippling through the atmosphere of the sun in the aftermath of powerful flares.
With shooting several low and moderate-level flares during the last days and the potential for larger flares currently in the spot, increased radio activity can be expected to continue for several days.
